Repositioning the KDE Brand | KDE.news
A number of changes are being made to the names of parts of the KDE project, including the desktop environment itself. "K Desktop Environment" is being abandoned, while KDE itself will be used to mean the community and as an umbrella term for all the KDE community's products. The software itself, on release, will be called the "KDE Software Compilation", not just KDE; the workspaces will be called "KDE Plasma Desktop" and "KDE Plasma Netbook", while the technologies for building applications will be called the "KDE Platform". The full details are in this document.
