KDE v4.2: second beta released

Posted in

From KDE Dot News:

A second beta of version 4.2 of KDE, the Qt4-based desktop environment for the X Window system, has been released (official announcement here). This contains only bug fixes over the last beta; a changelog (apparently a running changelog) is here. Source downloads, with links to some binaries, at the usual info page.

Qt Creator: open-source beta released

From Qt Software website:

A beta of Qt Creator, Qt Software's own IDE, has been released, this time under the GPL rather than as just a binary-only preview. This is currently a C++-only tool which relies on the usual external tools such as GDB and GNU Make; it also only supports qmake (i.e. not CMake). Download it here (Windows and Mac binaries, source for all platforms or a Git repository).

KOffice v2.0 beta 4 released

Posted in

From KDE Dot News:

A fourth beta of KOffice version 2.0 has been released. This adds the ability to translate script messages; other changes are bug fixes (Krita has the biggest single number). Full changelog here. KOffice is an office applications suite for KDE, which includes a word processor, a spreadsheet, a presentation program, project management software, and vector and raster graphics editors (a chart editor is available as a plugin). Downloads here (source, links to various binaries).

Amarok v2.0 released

Posted in

From Amarok homepage:

Version 2.0 of Amarok, the music playing and collection software for KDE, has been released. Changes:

  • Ported to KDE 4
  • Redesigned user interface
  • Tighter integration with online music services like Magnatune and last.fm
  • Overhauled scripting API and plugin support

Screenshots here, source downloads here, links to various binaries (including for Windows and Mac OS X) here. Requires KDE 4 (presumably 4.1). There is a requirements list here, but it pertains to the old version although it may be updated shortly.

Call for help on KWin ATi issues

Undefined Fire :: Last call for help

KDE developer Lucas Murray is calling for developers (C++ with OpenGL) to help debug issues affecting the performance of KWin on ATi graphics cards. Nobody on the KWin team has such a card, and if the bugs are not fixed soon, they will be present on the KDE 4.2 final release:

Currently KWin window shadows work absolutely fine on nVidia and Intel machines but as soon as someone starts it up when using an ATI driver (No idea which one exactly) all hell breaks loose: Textures are stretched, clamping doesn't work correctly and polygons are offset by 1 pixel in seemingly random directions.

He has a screenshot of one of the bugs.
