2010 Plasma Javascript Jam Session Winners Announced

The winners have been announced for the Plasmoid competition for which entries closed at the end of March. The winner was Ontje Lünsdorf with Aquarium, which is based on the Boid algorithm and demonstrates the behaviour of fish swarms; runners-up were the progress tracker MakeProgress and the note-taker ShortLog.

Pimp My Widgets: winner announced

Qt Software has announced the winners of their Pimp My Widgets competition to design the best extended Qt widget. The Grand Prize Winner gets a Segway i2; the others get a Nokia N810 internet tablet. The winners are:

  • Grand Prize Winner: QuickCalendarView, by Jukka-Pekka Maakelaa; a flexible calendar viewing widget based on QGraphicsView. Source here (GPL3).
  • Web Page Carousel, a replacement for the tab bar on a web browser, by Matt Broadstone. Source here (GPL2).
  • AnalogPad by Kaj Groenholm; a five-direction scroll-view navigation tool designed for use on touchscreens. Source here (GPL2).
  • A multi-view clock by Thomas Moenicke. Source here (GPL3).

Winners of QtCentre programming contest announced

Qt Centre has announced the winners of their second programmers' competition. They are:

  • Lancelot, an alternative menu with a clickless interface, with an icon list that can be dragged to the desktop, developed by Ivan Čukić; reward: Asus Eee 2G Surf 7
  • QtWui, allowing AJAX-enabled web applications in C++, including a built-in web server, developed by Eric Alber; reward: Neo FreeRunner
  • Quartica, a plugin based communications application which allows rich media sharing with a beautiful user interface, developed by Matteo Bertozzi; reward: FreeRunner
  • Inter-Proc-Sig-Prop, which "frees the signal and slot mechanism from both the process and the actual computer", developed by Bhooshan Ashok Supe; reward: Greenphone
  • WebIssues Client, a Qt-based client for a PHP-based issues tracker, developed by Michał Męciński; reward: iPod
  • xVidSerTh, an application for downloading Flash movies from YouTube and similar sites and for converting them to other, more usable formats, developed by Xesc; reward: MacBook

Qt Software has launched a competition entitled "Pimp My Widgets", by which:

Qt Software is kickin' out a new developer contest, throwin' down a challenge to the Qt community of developers to create innovative, attractive and functional and blingin' widgets using Qt across all supported platforms.

Qt Programming Contest 2008 announced

Qt Centre have announced their programming contest for 2008, sponsored by KDAB, Integrated Computer Solutions, Trolltech, BitRock, Thorsen Consulting, APress and basysKom. The contest starts today, registration closes 31st May and the contest finishes on 30th September. Categories are collaboration tools (this includes the likes of version control and chat clients), science and education software, project management, automation, products demonstrating Qt, a KDE 4 Plasmoid, and a category for any new application developed for the contest. Plasma Themes Contest

The KDE Plasma team is inviting everyone to participate in a contest to create Plasma themes from which a select few will be chosen to be included as a part of the upcoming KDE 4.1 release. This can be done using SVG with a program like Inkscape, GIMP or Karbon; it does not require C++ programming knowledge. Deadline is 18th April this year. KDE 4 release event contest winners announced

The winners of the contest to answer why one should get free admission to the KDE 4 release event (Mountain View, CA, 17-19 Jan 2008) have been announced. They are Aron Stansvik, a bookseller from Örebro, Sweden, and Kyle Cunningham, a computer science student at the University of Minnesota, and a KDE and Drupal contributor. Both will be speaking at the conference, and the content of their entries will be revealed then.

Qt Centre Programming Contest 2007 - Finalists

Qt Centre have published the results of their 2007 Programming Contest. The winners in each category were QXML-RPC for helper library (30Gb iPod and a book), Warp Tree for custom widget (three books), QDevelop for development tool (a MacBook and two books), and Marble desktop globe for desktop application (Sony PSP and a book). The Greenphones went to the developers of GreenSudoku and the OpenGL IDE Lumina.
