Version 1.0.1 of the Nokia Qt SDK, intended for developing mobile apps using Qt on the developer's preferred desktop platform, has been released. Main new features:

Qt Extended (Qtopia) v4.4 available

Version 4.4 of Qt Extended, formerly Qtopia, the embedded platform for Qt, has been made available for download through the community site, qtextended.org. It is presently at the bottom of this page (this is the open-source version only; the commercial download can be found here.

Version 4.4 of Qt Extended, the embedded Qt platform formerly called Qtopia, has been released. Main new features include:

  • Modular architecture for feature selection
  • Advanced touch based user interface
  • IP communications framework based on Telepathy - Instant Messaging (XMPP) and presence
  • Unified inbox for email, SMS, MMS, IM, etc. plus push IMAP email and other messaging enhancements
  • New Qt UI Test, a tool for automated system tests of the target device
  • New video IP desk phone reference design, demonstrating a desk phone design with a 3.5in touch screen

It does not seem to be available for download yet.

Maemo to support Qt

From KDE Dot News:

The Maemo project has announced that Qt is to be supported on that mobile device platform, used on the Nokia N770 and N800 wireless internet tablets, which currently supports the GTK+ toolkit. They have also announced that Nokia will be hiring Qt developers to work on Maemo. Maemo reckon that the first Qt libraries to be delivered will appear in the last quarter of this year.

OpenMoko event in London this Wednesday

UKUUG (not-an-acronym of UK Unix Users' Group) is holding a talk on OpenMoko, the operating system commonly used on the Neo1973 device as a basis for open-source development for Qtopia-based phones, at UCL this Wednesday coming (9th April), at 1830 BST (for approx 2 hours) in Cruciform Lecture Theatre 2, Cruciform Building, Gower Street, London WC1 (map here). The speaker is Ole Tange, a former Hostmaster for .dk and currently a software developer who has worked with Unix since 1991 and with GNU/Linux since 1992. More details at UKUUG here.

Trolltech Releases Qt 4.4 Beta — Trolltech

Trolltech has released a first beta of version 4.4 of Qt, its cross-platform desktop and embedded platform application toolkit. The major new features in this release are:

  • A web browser widget, based on WebKit (itself based on KDE's KHTML)
  • Added support for Windows CE (apparently because of which Qtopia Core has been renamed Qt for Embedded Linux)
  • Multimedia framework based on the KDE Phonon project
  • Enhanced XML support, with XQuery 1.0 support
  • Concurrency framework, allowing multi-threading without mutexes and other safety features
  • Interprocess communication framework
  • New help system, with a range of help classes instead of a standalone application

Trolltech in VoIP partnership with Broadcom

From Trolltech website:

Trolltech today announced a partnership with Broadcom, "a global leader in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications", to develop a complete Voice-over-IP (VoIP) development platform for IP manufacturers. The platform is to be based on Broadcom's BCM1103 VoIP processor and BCM1180 video and multimedia co-processor and Trolltech's Qtopia.
